![]() I bought my 335i a few months ago and just put some new tinted (not really dark) license plate covers on after getting my windows tinted. You shouldn\'t have a problem if you do that.I used to run tinted license plate covers on my old VW Passat for years and never had a problem. ![]() Just be smart about the accessories you get for your car, and keep the car (and the plates ) clean. you can\'t have plate covers, but if you don\'t have them, crap gets on them, which \"obstructs\" the view of the plate. Fortunately for me, cops rarely hassle you if you have clear plate covers, but I could still technically get a ticket for them. sp3GT, the police officer was well within his power to give you a ticket for the plate cover and the bulbs. Those were taken directly from the e-Laws folder on the MTO website. (b) have been modified by the attachment to the lamps or the motor vehicle of any device that reduces the effective area of the lenses or the intensity of the beam of the lamps. (a) are coated or covered with a coloured material or No person shall drive upon a highway a motor vehicle if either or both of the lamps that are required on the front of the vehicle by subsections (1), (2) and (3), So no matter what your bulb, if it has a tint, it\'s illegal. ![]() A blue bulb, no matter how lightly tinted, is still a blue bulb, hence it is illegal, since the HTA states that any bulb on the car cannot be any colour other than white, amber or red. If the bulbs are tinted purple, then it is not a natural white, and therefore is illegal. 62 (19).Īs for the bulbs, it is a similar philosophy as the plate covers. The lamp on the rear of a motor vehicle or trailer shall be of at least three candela and shall be so placed that it will, at any time from one-half hour before sunset to one-half hour after sunrise and at any other time when, due to insufficient light or unfavourable atmospheric conditions, persons and vehicles on the highway are not clearly discernible at a distance of 150 metres or less, illuminate the numbers on the number plate, or, if provision is made on the number plate or on any attachment furnished or required by the Ministry for affixing the lamp, it shall be affixed in the position or space provided, and the lamp shall face to the rear and reflect on the number plate a white light only. Unless the tire is touching the car (I\'m not talking about rubbing but while the car is motionless) or the car is touching the ground (Again that is very subjective and there is no actual law about some two finger rule). I\'ve been hearing that some guys are getting hassled because of the \'two finger\' rule LOL whatever that is but supposedly cops are pulling over cars that are lowered and if their two fingers dont fit between the tire and wheel well it can result in a ticket. If you want to play safe even print some things out and carry it with you hopefully you dont have to use it but its a good tool to have(i.e. Guys check the PROJECT ERASE website (hover over the circles for the laws and descriptions of the mod. *knock on wood* wow now that I think about it I was really lucky he didnt hassle me about other stuff I got pulled over for a dealer liscence plate cover (but my BF painted a black border around it to cover the dealer name etc- the only thing the cop had an issue with is that it covered the word ONTARIO So those plate covers from Crappy Tire are considered illegal? :hoho My question is, are the mini bulbs illegal to use and are the tinted license plate cover illegal? I see tones of cars using those! It was gonna be two $110 dollar fines but he was nice and said if I took the license plate covers off rite away he would take away both fines. It was gonna be another fine for that, then he goes to the front and see\'s that my turn signals are like that too. They\'re kinda deceiving because they are coated purple but show white. Then he looks around my car and sees that I have these Super White mini bulbs in my reverse lights. Then he tells me that the LIGHTLY tinted license plate covers I had are illegal and that he would charge me with a $110 FINE. I was thinking what could I possibly me doing wrong!!! I was moving along and then all of a sudden a cop car shows up behind me then pulls beside me and tells me to pull over into a plaza. So yesterday I was driving on Hwy7 around 4:30.
